SERVICE PROJECTS
Making an Impact
Kiwanis Club of Lubbock is an active civic organization participating in a number of projects to benefit members of our local community as well as the larger national and world community. Most of our efforts focus on supporting programs dedicated to serving children. Our most well-known effort is the American Flag program. Kiwanis members volunteer their time placing flags throughout Lubbock at homes and business to commemorate five national holidays. Funds raised from this program are used to provide financial support to a number of charities and service organizations in our community. Additional projects are scheduled through the remainder of the year and provide great opportunities for Kiwanis members to be actively involved. The following projects are scheduled on a regular basis for our club:
December
Angel Tree-Salvation Army
Members select angels and purchase Christmas gifts
Red Kettle Campaign-Salvation Army
Members “ring the bell” collecting donations for the Salvation Army at J.C. Penney store
January
Craft & Board Game Supply Drive - Boys & Girls Club
Members purchase crafting supplies, table tennis and billiard supplies, as well as numerous board games for the children who participate at the Ted Phea Boy’s & Girl’s Club after school program
February
Book Drive -TTUHSC Speech, Hearing & Language Clinic
Members donate approximately 100 children’s books to be used in speech therapy as well as to promote reading at home.
March
Dinner Servers & Table Hosts - Lubbock Impact
Members assist with serving the Wednesday night dinner as well as visiting with guests during the meal.
April
Adopt-a-Highway - Texas Dept. of Transportation
Members dedicate a Saturday morning to picking up litter and trash along Regis Avenue (between) I-27 and MLK Boulevard
Kiwanis International Day of Giving - Kiwanis International
Members make individual donations to the Kiwanis Fund in support of the international outreach activities of Kiwanis International
Flag Work Day - Kiwanis Club of Lubbock
Members gather at Caprock Home Health Care property to repair or replace American Flags on over 800 flagpoles in preparation for the American Flag
Program (our signature Kiwanis Club of Lubbock project). A pizza party follows!
May
Dinner Host/Guest Chef-Ronald McDonald House
Several members provide food and prepare a delicious meal of baked ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad and cake for the guests of RMHC in May.
June
Cookout- Children’s Home of Lubbock
July
Art Supply Drive - High Point Village
Members donate paint brushes, paint canvases and modeling clay to be used by villagers in their art classes and art therapy.
